Heckle discus are a species of discus found mostly in Brazil's Rio Negro. The fifth stripe is a distinguishing feature, as it is broad and dark. There are several naturally occurring variants of Heckle Discus, but they are typically more muted in color than aequifasciatus. They are captivating and beautiful despite this lack of bright and brilliant coloration. This species tends to be very difficult to keep and is only recommended for very experienced aquarists.
